We Don't Think Of Metro Stations As A Place For Awesome Lighting, and Yet...

Our friends at iLight do some of the coolest stuff. This is the Metro Station for Target Field in  Minneapolis. We don’t think of places like Metro stations as an opportunity for amazing lighting and yet the design team created this incredible lighting installation that turns a boring station into an amazing experience. Here’s some more on the project:

Perkins Eastman Architects’ vision for Target Field Station extended well beyond transit. The goal was an iconic destination for game-day activities, as well as year-round activities and events like movie nights, festivals and concerts.

At night, the lighting design provides “a visual signature” that extends to the Hypnotica–illuminated underpass, says Paul Whitaker, Senior Lighting Designer at Minneapolis-based Schuler Shook.

“The space under a bridge is usually devoid of character,” he says. “Adding kinetic lighting introduces an energetic vibe, and gives the lower section of the park its own dynamic look.”

“Hypnotica was the perfect fit for this application. Its compact size, the look of the product when lit, and its programmability help make this project a success.”
