Where Custom is Standard – Day-O-Lite Linear Lighting

1

Budgets are tight. Projects are routinely value-engineered. It seems like designs are constantly being squeezed. That downward price pressure makes a word like “custom” way too scary to bring into design conversations. I looked up the word custom in the design dictionary.

But Day-O-Lite is a different company. Based only a few hours away in Rhode Island, everything Day-O-Lite builds is to your order and specification. So, while there are plenty of standard products from Day-O-Lite (more on that in a second), we really look at every project as a chance to do something special.

“Custom as Standard”

When you’re cutting the aluminum, bending the steel, and assembling the LEDs per the spec for every job, changing things isn’t that hard. Day-O-Lite wants to make it easier to go beyond the typical line of light and create unique spaces.

The Basic Building Blocks of Day-O-Lite Linear – Profile

When you go to the Day-O-Lite homepage you’ll find tons of products. For today we’re going to focus on the linear form factors, the Profile family. These form the building blocks of any “custom” project you might want to create.

From a Line of Light to Dynamic Toolkit

All of the profiles listed above can be curved, with the exception of the PRFL22. They can also be mounted pretty much any way you can think of, and they can transition from one ceiling type to another. Day-O-Lite is also unique in the market because it is a wet paint shop instead of a powder coating shop. This is interesting because they can load their machines with any paint you like to match your other finishes exactly. However, the technical capabilities are only one part of the story.

Custom is just a word

While tight budgets and value engineering often make the idea of "custom" seem daunting, Day-O-Lite embraces custom work as a standard practice. Located just a few hours away in Rhode Island, Day-O-Lite builds everything to order and specification, making it easier to create unique spaces beyond typical designs. The versatility of Day-O-Lite's Profile family of linear form factors serves as the building blocks for custom projects, with highly customizable outputs, mounting options, dimming protocols, and even paint finishes. Moreover, the human aspect of design at Day-O-Lite is truly remarkable, with a team always ready to discuss design challenges and collaborate, ensuring a seamless transition from feasibility to design sketches to shop drawings. As someone who has worked closely with Day-O-Lite, I can personally attest to their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
